What are Replica Watches—An overview

Generally branded watches are very expensive and some are even collectibles. So not everyone can get their hands on branded watches. However, there are a lot of people who love branded watches but are unable to wear them due to the high price point. In this case most people tend to turn towards choosing replicas of the branded watches

What are replica watches?

Replica watches are the closest reproduction of the original watch. It is not exactly the same as the original but it is very similar to the original. However, it is considered illegal in most countries, because they are reducing business for the actual brands. They may be very close to the original and gradually with time, the quality of replica watches is improving as well.

Which brands’ replicas are in the market?

There are tons of expensive watch brands in the market, which are copied as replicas by companies that make cheaper versions of the expensive watches available to the public. Most of these watches are produced in China and other Asian countries because there they can be replicated for a much lesser cost since labor is cheaper in these countries. The more popular brands whose watches are often replicated are Rolex, Omega, Patek Phillipe, Cartier and Tag Heuer.

Replica watches’ movements

The movements used in branded watches are very intricate and delicate; they take time to set into watches since majority of the expensive watches are personalized. Most expensive watches are very complicated, hence hand made because every component of the watch has to be especially placed in the watches.

Most replica watches do not have original movements because they require a lot of detailing to be placed into watch whereas replicas are probably produced in bulk without any personal touch.

Why choose replica watches?

Since branded watches are very expensive, most people are unable to enjoy the luxury and benefits of owning an original branded watch. Hence, local companies of different countries come up with replica watches to capture the market of people who cannot afford original watches. Buying a replica watch may look good but it does not mean it will function as well as the original or even last equally long like that.

Impact of replicas on original watches

There is a higher demand for cheaper knock offs of the original watch than the actual original watch due to the price point of them. Most companies then follow the demand of the general consumer and choose to produce the replica watches since the market for them is larger. This means that there are a lot of people who are wearing watches, which look exactly like the original watches and that adversely affects the people who actually spend a large proportion of their hard earned income on purchasing a branded watch.
Not only does it affect the people who purchase the watches but also the brand that puts in a lot of their time, effort and money into developing these unique watches. Each watch is considered a personal item and a lot of effort is put into producing each watch by hand, where the labor fixes all components of it separately.
